SubjectGod the only Cause and Creator

Responsive Reading: Psalm 95 : 1-7

1.     O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

2.     Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

3.     For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

4.     In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

5.     The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

6.     O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

7.     For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Lesson Sermon

The Bible

1. Psalm 77 : 13 (who)

13     …who is so great a God as our God?

2. Genesis 1 : 1, 8 (to 1st .), 10 (to :), 11 (to :), 16, 21 (to :), 24 (to :), 27, 31 (to 1st .)

1     In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

8     And God called the firmament Heaven.

10     And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas:

11     And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth:

16     And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

21     And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind:

24     And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:

27     So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

31     And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

3. Isaiah 40 : 25, 26, 28

25     To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

26     Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

28     Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

4. Luke 1 : 26-28, 30-32 (to 1st :), 33 (and of)-35, 46, 47

26     And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27     To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

28     And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

30     And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31     And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

32     He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:

33     …and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

34     Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

35     And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

46     And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

47     And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

5. Matthew 4 : 23 (to 1st ,)

23     And Jesus went about all Galilee,

6. Luke 18 : 35-43

35     And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36     And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37     And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38     And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

39     And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

40     And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

41     Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

42     And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

43     And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

7. Acts 17 : 22-28

22     Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

23     For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

24     God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25     Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26     And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27     That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28     For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

8. Revelation 4 : 11

11     Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

9. Psalm 150 : 1 (to :), 6

1     Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary:

6     Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

10. Psalm 34 : 3

3     O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

1. 497 : 5 (We)-6

We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God.

2. 295 : 5 only

God creates and governs the universe, including man.

3. 331 : 18 (God)-25

God is individual, incorporeal. He is divine Principle, Love, the universal cause, the only creator, and there is no other self-existence. He is all-inclusive, and is reflected by all that is real and eternal and by nothing else. He fills all space, and it is impossible to conceive of such omnipresence and individuality except as infinite Spirit or Mind. Hence all is Spirit and spiritual.

4. 263 : 20-28

There can be but one creator, who has created all. Whatever seems to be a new creation, is but the discovery of some distant idea of Truth; else it is a new multiplication or self-division of mortal thought, as when some finite sense peers from its cloister with amazement and attempts to pattern the infinite.

The multiplication of a human and mortal sense of persons and things is not creation.

5. 262 : 27-32

The foundation of mortal discord is a false sense of man's origin. To begin rightly is to end rightly. Every concept which seems to begin with the brain begins falsely. Divine Mind is the only cause or Principle of existence. Cause does not exist in matter, in mortal mind, or in physical forms.

6. 286 : 31-8

Sin, sickness, and death are comprised in human material belief, and belong not to the divine Mind. They are without a real origin or existence. They have neither Principle nor permanence, but belong, with all that is material and temporal, to the nothingness of error, which simulates the creations of Truth. All creations of Spirit are eternal; but creations of matter must return to dust. Error supposes man to be both mental and material. Divine Science contradicts this postulate and maintains man's spiritual identity.

7. 302 : 31 (in)-10

…in Christian Science, reproduction by Spirit's individual ideas is but the reflection of the creative power of the divine Principle of those ideas. The reflection, through mental manifestation, of the multitudinous forms of Mind which people the realm of the real is controlled by Mind, the Principle governing the reflection. Multiplication of God's children comes from no power of propagation in matter, it is the reflection of Spirit.

The minutiæ of lesser individualities reflect the one divine individuality and are comprehended in and formed by Spirit, not by material sensation.

8. 332 : 23 (Jesus) (to .), 26-29

Jesus was the son of a virgin. … Mary's conception of him was spiritual, for only purity could reflect Truth and Love, which were plainly incarnate in the good and pure Christ Jesus.

9. 539 : 27-4

The divine origin of Jesus gave him more than human power to expound the facts of creation, and demonstrate the one Mind which makes and governs man and the universe. The Science of creation, so conspicuous in the birth of Jesus, inspired his wisest and least-understood sayings, and was the basis of his marvellous demonstrations. Christ is the offspring of Spirit, and spiritual existence shows that Spirit creates neither a wicked nor a mortal man, lapsing into sin, sickness, and death.

10. 507 : 15-29

The universe of Spirit reflects the creative power of the divine Principle, or Life, which reproduces the multitudinous forms of Mind and governs the multiplication of the compound idea man. The tree and herb do not yield fruit because of any propagating power of their own, but because they reflect the Mind which includes all. A material world implies a mortal mind and man a creator. The scientific divine creation declares immortal Mind and the universe created by God.

Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity. This divine Principle of all expresses Science and art throughout His creation, and the immortality of man and the universe. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.

11. 69 : 13-16

Spiritually to understand that there is but one creator, God, unfolds all creation, confirms the Scriptures, brings the sweet assurance of no parting, no pain, and of man deathless and perfect and eternal.

12. 268 : 6-9

Belief in a material basis, from which may be deduced all rationality, is slowly yielding to the idea of a metaphysical basis, looking away from matter to Mind as the cause of every effect.

13. 262 : 5-7

Christian Science takes naught from the perfection of God, but it ascribes to Him the entire glory.

14. 207 : 20-26

There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause. Sin, sickness, disease, and death belong not to the Science of being. They are the errors, which presuppose the absence of Truth, Life, or Love.

15. 415 : 1-5

Immortal Mind is the only cause; therefore disease is neither a cause nor an effect. Mind in every case is the eternal God, good. Sin, disease, and death have no foundations in Truth.

16. 521 : 5-11

All that is made is the work of God, and all is good. We leave this brief, glorious history of spiritual creation (as stated in the first chapter of Genesis) in the hands of God, not of man, in the keeping of Spirit, not matter, — joyfully acknowledging now and forever God's supremacy, omnipotence, and omnipresence.

17. 143 : 26-31

Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name.
